Sea Otter Classic  4/18/04

The Sea Otter Classic took place on and around the Laguna Seca Raceway near Monterey. On the venue there were of course many booths of bike manufacturers and the likes and you can see Thierry here do some unspeakable things with a fake rock at the Specialized booth.
Here you can admire my finish. Observe how the motion blur in the pictures suggests the formidable speed I was developing! I ended up 25th (out of 147) in my class; not too bad I guess - if I didn't had the bad crash in the beginning the result would have been better (and my road rash non-existent).

The MTBSH picnic-team! Thanks a lot Thomas, Thierry, Inge and Malena for the support, wine, cheese, champagne and overall good company. On the picture next to it, Thierry and I are having a brief chat with reigning world champion XC Filip Meirhaeghe, who showed up at the Specialized booth.

This was a more technical section of the trail...
seriously, these insane freeriders (the 'FlowRiders' ) were showing off at a Yeti-sponsored booth, where they had built a bunch of wooden bridges, jumps and crazy stunt constructs.

These guys were disturbingly out of their mind (that, or we are complete mtb wussies) but generated some nice footage and ooohs from the audience. The pic next to it gives a bird's eye view of their constructs.
